Hiring a tree service
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Trailhead Tree Service, LLC is a registered Washington contractor (TRAILTS796RC), is a registered Idaho contractor (2271382), holds a City of Spokane Commercial Tree Service License, is bonded and insured, and has ISA Certified Arborists on staff. We will send a certificate of insurance before any job on request.
Full answer →How soon can you do the job?
An arborist comes out to look in a few days. Work is typically booked a few weeks out depending on the season. Emergency response is our priority, and we are already working on the weekend.
Full answer →Are your crews careful around property?
Yes. Difficult removals done without damage is the thing our reviews mention most. A crew lead walks the property with you before we start, we protect what is under the tree, and we leave the site clean. One customer's review describes nine trees taken out around patio furniture, lights, and a pool with no damage.
Full answer →What happens on the estimate visit?
Ryan or Adam comes to the property in a few days, free, walks it with you, photographs the trees, and tells you honestly whether each one should be pruned, cabled, or removed. You get a written quote.

How do you price tree work?
Every tree is different, so every price is. Age, health, size, species, what is under the tree, and how we reach it decide the job. An arborist looks in person, free, and you get a written quote. We do not publish a price list, and we do not quote from a photo alone.
Full answer →Prune, remove, or save it
Can you get equipment into a fenced back yard?
Usually. Our 72-foot spider lift and mini skid-steer both fit through a 36-inch gate, which lets us remove or prune large trees over roofs and fences without a crane or a climber over the house.
Full answer →Should I prune, trim, or remove my tree?
Trimming and pruning are the same work: removing dead, damaged, or crowding limbs so the tree stays healthy and safe. We recommend removal only when a tree is dying, diseased, structurally failing, or a hazard to a home. An ISA Certified Arborist assesses every tree before we recommend either.
Full answer →Do you grind stumps?
Yes. We grind stumps below grade so you can plant, seed, or pave, either with the removal or on its own. It is quoted with the removal, and it costs less when we grind it while the crew is already there.
Full answer →When should a tree be removed?
A tree should be removed when it is dead or dying, diseased beyond recovery, structurally failing (rot at the base, a large crack, a worsening lean), or when it is a hazard to a home, a power line, or people, and pruning or cabling cannot make it safe. An ISA Certified Arborist can usually tell you which in one visit.
Full answer →What is defensible-space pruning, and do I need it in Spokane County?
Defensible space is the area around a home managed so a wildfire is less likely to reach it: about 30 feet around the house (100 feet on a slope), lowest limbs pruned 6 to 10 feet up, and dead trees removed. Trailhead is wildfire risk reduction qualified, so the pruning is done to the standard, not a guess.
Full answer →Do you top trees?
No. Topping (cutting a tree's main leaders back to stubs) is not an accepted arboricultural practice: it starves the tree, grows weakly attached shoots that break in wind, and usually costs more within a few years. If a tree is too big for its spot, an ISA Certified Arborist can usually reduce it properly or tell you honestly that it should come out.

Do you do emergency storm work?
Yes. Emergency response is our priority, and we are already working on the weekend. Send a photo to (509) 496-1838 with your address and we will tell you tonight whether it can wait until morning or when we can be there. If it is an emergency, call 911 first.

Yes. We serve Spokane and surrounding areas: Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Post Falls, Airway Heights, Cheney, Medical Lake, Nine Mile Falls, Deer Park, and outlying areas. Licensed in Washington and Idaho.
Full answer →The Tree Care Plan
Do I need a tree maintenance plan?
If you have mature trees near a house or on grounds you are responsible for, yes: most tree problems are visible a year before they cost money. The Trailhead Tree Care Plan is one ISA Certified Arborist visit a year, a written plan for every tree on the property, and the upkeep done on schedule. For HOAs, campuses, businesses and homeowners across the greater Spokane area.
